Work Online with ZOHO Personal & Business Applications

What is ZOHO?
Zoho is a suite of web based (online) Applications just like Google Docs. Most of the applications available are free for individuals and some have a subscription fee. For personal use, one can blindly assume all the applications are for FREE! This is kind of an application which is also best suited for small Institutions working on various projects.

What Applications  are available in Zoho?

Personal Groups
With Zoho Personal, one can create a wide number of Personal Groups and invite members from any organization to collaboratively share documents.

Business Applications
Apart from Zoho Personal, which is a suite of web-based applications for personal use, it also provides a suite of Business Applications. There are many tools in the Business Category as well.
CRM, Projects ( Like MS Project), Creator (a Database Application), Invoice, People (HR & Applicant Tracking system), Meeting, Business, Market Place.

Most of these Business Applications can be used free of cost to certain extent or one can purchase them for unlimited use. This is where Zoho makes some income.

Other Utilities

Zoho Viewer
This file upload utility lets you upload and share online Documents or files to others very easily. Just upload the document, grab the URL and share it with others. You can also set the expiry of the document being uploaded. It supports the following file formats.

Microsoft Office Formats – .doc .xls .ppt .pps
Open Document Formats – .odt .ods .odp
Open Office Formats – .sxw (Writer) .sxc (Calc) .sxi (Impress Presentation)
Other Formats – .pdf .rtf .html .txt .csv

If you are not able to find the type of file you want to upload, you can also submit a request to get it added.

Zoho Challenge is a wonderful utility which lets you create and conduct online examinations.

Zoho Polls lets you conduct and review polls.

Zoho Vs Google
Google has decided to stop further development of of it’s Google Notebook, which is used to clip notes from web pages. Zoho, immediately acted and brought the following utilities/tools to transfer your content from Google.

Transfer/Migrate your Google Notebook content to Zoho
There are two ways to import your content from Google Notebook.

Way 1 – Using Firefox plugin

  1. Install this Firefox plugin for Zoho and restart your browser.
  2. Login to both Zoho Notebook and Google Notebook.
  3. Either in one of the existing tab or in a new tab copy this text in the address bar. DO NOT USE HTTP OR WWW while entering this URL in the address bar.
  4. chrome://zoho-notebook/content/g2z.html

  5. Follow the steps and all your content will be moved to Zoho.

Way 2 - Import from Google Notebook as Atom (.XML)

  1. Login to Google Notebook.
  2. Click Manage notebooks on the left hand side
  3. Click export on which notebook you want to export.
  4. Now click Browse or Choose file button provided below, to select the saved file. Save the file with .XML
  5. Import the saved file here.

Zoho’s applications are a fantastic oppurtunity for self employed individuals and small business owners to start using a basic CRM system. It offers one of the most cost effective solutions available at the moment. Great article.

Try out HyperOffice collaboration software for online small business applications. They have a fully integrated suite with email, collaboration tools and web conferencing.

Thanks for telling me about ZOHO, I went there and saw ahead of every application, there is Try Now button, I thought they may be charging any fees but reading your article that these apps are free for individuals, I am thinking to try it out now. They seem cool.
