WordPress 2.7 released
WordPress users … Good news!!!
The latest version of WordPress 2.7 released today. It’s live on Read2Know.com. The ‘Coltrane‘ code named project is now available for the blogger community.
Features
- Interface: All new look. The image below shows the Dashboard. The image colors on the left hand pane changes to a different color when pointed with the mouse cursor.
- Dashboard: The new Dashboard has the same options that you have on the older one. Of course, it has some new add-ins like the QuickPress. You can post articles with few clicks using QuickPress.
- All the options on the Dashboard can be configured and re-arranged. You can remove the ones that you do not like.
- Every task that you need to perform takes fewer clicks than the older versions and they are fast as well.
- Comments can now be threaded without any additional plugins or code changes.
- Every screen can be customized.
- The other important feature about the latest version is about the performance. It’s too early to comment on this. I haven’t checked the page load capabilities on my blog yet.
- Automatic Upgrades: It’s a pain to upgrade to the next version of the WordPress. You will have to go through this pain only this time. Once you are in 2.7, you need not do the manual upgrades next time. It’ taken care in the latest version.
Download WordPress 2.7 now for a faster experience.

Comments
I’m loving it Lyndi! Not ready to comment on the performance yet though. I have to see if my theme supports Threaded comments. BTW, I’m commenting this through the Dashboard.
I will tweak my theme for Threaded support soon ![]()
BTW one of the best feature in WP2.7 is its looks.

Most themes that you had before it was released wouldn’t support threaded comments. You need to tweak it
The easiest is to use the comments.php from the classic template (from the release) but of course you still have to add the css styles (I made a change based on a blog’s tutorial, forgot where that is now. I googled it)

@Chetan, I will try to tweak my theme as well! But not sure
@Michael, Thanks for the information. Please let me know if you find the tutorial that you were referring to.
I just did a manual upgrade to 2.7 last night and now have 2.7.1. This is such a leap forward from Wordpress 2.6.3. Good job wordpress.

The new version is just great, isn’t it? Some themes might not be able to handle the threaded comments or some of the other new features. These themes will have to have their code tweaked a bit to make the new stuff work. I am sure the articles telling us all how to make the necessary changes will be popping up all over the show soon.
